R&D Test Engineer - Electrical Power Systems
About this role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks an R&D Test Engineer to design and build innovative fluid systems for research test stands, particularly supporting magnet testing across multiple fluid types (cryogenic, supercritical, molten salt, etc.). The role combines engineering design, hands-on testing, system commissioning, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to support fusion energy development.
What you'll do
- Design and develop novel fluid systems for R&D test stands with focus on magnet testing support
- Select and integrate off-the-shelf and custom hardware to meet project requirements on tight timelines
- Commission test systems and design automation in collaboration with test/software engineers
- Operate as a test engineer conducting system validation and troubleshooting
- Collaborate across production, R&D, procurement, and SPARC teams
- Support risk retirement activities for SPARC and ARC fusion projects
