Clera
Founding Agentic Engineer
About this role
Join a founding team building production-grade agentic systems for real-world business operations. As the first agentic engineer, you'll architect the agent layer end-to-end—from context engineering and self-learning to evals and recovery systems—while defining engineering patterns for the organization and helping scale the team.
What you'll do
- Own the complete agent layer including context engineering, self-learning systems, evals, and harness infrastructure
- Design self-healing workflows that detect, diagnose, and autonomously recover from production failures
- Build and maintain a meta-harness enabling rapid agent creation, evaluation, and iteration
- Establish compounding knowledge bases from undocumented systems to improve each new integration
- Define engineering patterns and best practices for building and measuring agentic systems across the org
- Help hire and mentor the agentic systems team as a peer to founders
What they're looking for
- Agentic AI systems architecture and implementation (recent production experience)
- Context engineering and self-learning system design
- Agent tracing, evaluation frameworks, and eval-driven iteration
- Autonomous failure detection and self-healing workflow design
- TypeScript and backend systems engineering
- PostgreSQL and production LLM integrations
- Startup execution and shipping mindset
- System design and technical leadership patterns
Benefits
- Competitive salary: $150K–$300K annually
- Visa sponsorship available for O-1 visa candidates
- Founding-level equity and impact opportunity
- Work directly with CTO on core technical strategy
- 5-day on-site in San Francisco
