Founding Engineer
About this role
Join a Y Combinator-backed AI financial research startup as a founding engineer, building infrastructure and agentic systems for healthcare sector analysis. You'll own full-stack development across frontend, backend, real-time systems, and data pipelines in a three-person team where your work directly shapes the product.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain full-stack features including frontend, real-time systems, and backend infrastructure
- Design and implement data pipelines and internal tools for analysts to onboard new information sources
- Improve agentic AI parsing and extraction systems for greater reliability and capability
- Own work end-to-end: data inspection, QA, instrumentation, production deployment, and incident resolution
- Establish company data ontology and deliver initial versions of core product features
- Add new information sources and ship measurable improvements to system speed or reliability
What they're looking for
- Full-stack development: Python (FastAPI), TypeScript, React
- Data engineering: ETL, data modeling, SQL, pipeline design
- Production AI/LLM systems: agentic AI, prompt engineering, production deployment
- Database design and optimization with PostgreSQL or relational systems
- AWS infrastructure, deployment, and cloud operations
- Production observability, monitoring, and distributed systems debugging
- Real-time data systems and streaming architecture
- Judgment on AI agent reasoning vs. deterministic logic tradeoffs
