Wire Harness Mechanical Engineer
About this role
Collaborative Robotics seeks a Wire Harness Mechanical Engineer to design, route, release, and validate wire harnesses and cable assemblies for robotic systems. You'll own the complete lifecycle from requirements through production, collaborating with cross-functional teams to balance reliability, packaging, cost, and manufacturability.
What you'll do
- Design and release wire harnesses and cable assemblies from requirements through routing, validation, and production support
- Translate electrical schematics into 3D CAD routes, 2D drawings, BOMs, wire lists, and manufacturing documentation
- Define routing, connectors, terminals, protective coverings, strain relief, bend radii, and assembly access specifications
- Partner with mechanical, electrical, systems, test, and manufacturing teams to resolve interfaces and optimize tradeoffs
- Support prototype and first-article builds, diagnose issues, and incorporate physical-build learning into designs
- Develop validation testing for continuity, voltage drop, signal integrity, and mechanical durability
What they're looking for
- Wire harness and cable assembly design
- 3D CAD cable routing (SolidWorks preferred; CATIA, NX, Creo experience valued)
- Electrical schematic interpretation and interconnect design
- Manufacturing documentation and BOM creation
- Prototype build support and troubleshooting
- Connector selection and strain relief engineering
- Cross-functional collaboration and communication
- Hands-on integration and validation testing
Benefits
- Relocation stipend for candidates living 50+ miles from Santa Clara office
- Onsite position at Santa Clara, CA headquarters
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge collaborative robotics technology
- Fast-paced, dynamic startup environment with small team
- Direct impact on human-robot interaction innovation
