Forward Deployed Engineer, Compliance [Office of the CTO]
About this role
Coinbase seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed within the Compliance organization and drive AI-powered automation across regulatory workflows. You'll partner with compliance leadership to prototype solutions using Coinbase's AI platform, own the automation roadmap, and ensure all outputs remain auditable and defensible to regulators.
What you'll do
- Embed with Compliance teams to identify high-leverage automation opportunities in transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and regulatory workflows
- Rapidly prototype AI-powered solutions using Coinbase's existing platform, translating complex compliance processes into engineering requirements
- Own the Compliance automation roadmap in collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer, defining build-vs-buy strategy for compliance tooling
- Design compliance automation with regulatory defensibility as a first-class concern—ensuring auditability, approval gates, and human-in-the-loop controls
- Drive adoption through walkthroughs, brown-bags, and feedback loops to ensure tools gain traction with frontline teams
- Act as connective tissue between Compliance stakeholders and AI platform engineering teams, advocating for both sides
What they're looking for
- 5+ years production software engineering in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments
- Hands-on LLM deployment: prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, human-in-the-loop design
- Ability to embed with domain experts and translate complex workflows into engineering specs
- Compliance and regulatory systems knowledge: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, case management, audit-ready data handling
- Multi-agent orchestration concepts including handoffs, escalation, and auditability
- Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded advisory experience—preferably in RegTech or financial services
- Responsible AI usage with focus on measurable business outcomes
- Greenfield project experience
