About this role
Join Deepgram's engineering team as an intern to own a real, scoped project building voice AI infrastructure. You'll ship production code for speech-to-text, text-to-speech, or voice agent systems while leveraging AI as a core tool in your development workflow.
What you'll do
- Own and ship one end-to-end project from design through tested, merged code in staging or production
- Land pull requests that improve core components like the ASR pipeline, TTS latency, or developer SDKs
- Ramp on Deepgram's codebase and speech/audio domain deeply enough to debug and extend systems with decreasing mentorship
- Integrate AI tools as a default part of prototyping, testing, and debugging workflows
- Present project outcomes and learnings to the team, with documentation for future iterations
- Make at least one measurable, lasting improvement to the platform or developer experience
What they're looking for
- Proficiency in at least one programming language with ability to learn new languages quickly
- First-principles reasoning and debugging mindset when systems break
- Active, creative use of AI tools for learning, prototyping, and development
- Clear communication of technical work, trade-offs, and problem-solving approaches
- Experience building projects, tools, scripts, or automations independently
- Coursework or hands-on exposure to machine learning, distributed systems, or audio/speech processing
- Ability to give and receive feedback and iterate rapidly
- Comfort with evolving requirements and fast-moving technical environments
Benefits
- Mentored ownership of a real, scoped project with measurable impact
- Access to cutting-edge voice AI technology and production systems
- Exposure to how research, engineering, and customer feedback loop together
- Remote work flexibility
- Opportunity to work with leading voice AI platform used by 200,000+ developers

Likely interview questions
- Tell us about a project you built because you wanted it to exist — what was the problem, and how did you approach it?
- How do you currently use AI tools in your learning and development workflow? Give a specific example where it helped you ship faster or debug better.
