Embedded Systems Engineer
About this role
HRL Laboratories seeks an Embedded Systems Engineer to design and develop embedded control systems for RF and millimeter-wave sensors used in aerospace and defense applications. You'll lead embedded software development, collaborate with RF engineers, and support system integration across communication, radar, and electronic warfare platforms.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and test embedded control software for RF subsystems operating from below 0.1 to 200+ GHz
- Lead embedded control portion of RF system development and serve as subject matter expert
- Work with scientists and engineers to support state-of-the-art RF subsystem development
- Support system integration and test, providing rapid design updates as needed
- Document best practices and mentor junior engineers in embedded systems
- Contribute to customer problem-solving, proposal activities, and technical briefings

- Low-level embedded programming (7+ years)
- HDL (Verilog/VHDL, HLS)
- C/C++ and Python
- FPGA, DSP, and microcontroller development
- RF and high-speed digital test equipment
- Git/GitLab version control and CI/CD practices
- Xilinx SoC experience
- RF/radar/EW systems knowledge
