About this role
Join a Chicago-based financial services firm as a Database Operations Engineer, supporting critical database infrastructure for a proprietary trading and investment company. You'll monitor database health, perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot incidents, and grow your DBA skills alongside experienced professionals in a fast-paced trading environment.
What you'll do
- Monitor database health, performance, and availability across production environments
- Execute routine maintenance tasks including backups, restores, patching, and user access management
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents with senior team support
- Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval, reporting, and operational troubleshooting
- Develop documentation, runbooks, and automation scripts to improve operational efficiency
- Participate in on-call rotation and assist with data migration and disaster recovery testing

- SQL query writing and optimization
- Relational database concepts (indexing, normalization, query performance)
- Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL
- Scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, or Python)
- Linux and Windows operating systems administration
- Database backup/recovery and monitoring tools
- Git version control
- Problem-solving and attention to detail
