Applied AI Engineer - Hardware
About this role
Etched is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to build autonomous agent systems that design frontier AI hardware, orchestrating tool integrations across electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing domains. You'll develop end-to-end AI agents capable of creating CAD models, schematics, PCB layouts, and running simulations to accelerate hardware design cycles.
What you'll do
- Build AI agents that convert engineering requirements into verified electrical and mechanical designs with full manufacturing traceability
- Develop agent workflows spanning component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, mechanical CAD, thermal analysis, and multi-physics simulation
- Create tool integrations enabling agents to operate CAD, EDA, and simulation software with reasoning over geometry, materials, and coupled constraints
- Design evaluation metrics and frameworks measuring engineering correctness, constraint satisfaction, manufacturability, and real-world performance
- Curate proprietary datasets from design trajectories, expert demonstrations, and manufactured outcomes to improve model performance
- Ship agent-generated designs with hardware teams and quantify improvements in design cycle time and engineering effort
