Automation Engineer

About this role

FieldAI is seeking an Automation Engineer to improve reliability and performance of deployed robot fleets by triaging field failures, managing the ML improvement cycle, and hands-on model development. You'll work across robotics, ML, and operations to identify failure modes, curate data, and ship production improvements that get validated on real hardware.

What you'll do

• Triage issues across deployed robot sites and identify high-impact failure modes from logs, telemetry, and model outputs
• Build and maintain datasets and evaluation sets for new failure modes and site-specific use cases
• Train, fine-tune, and evaluate ML models to address perception, prediction, and planning challenges
• Partner with modeling, data, and deployment teams to turn field failures into actionable improvements
• Validate model and system improvements on robots and support integration across deployed sites
• Measure production improvements and ensure fixes are generalized across multiple sites

• Machine learning model training, fine-tuning, and evaluation
• Debugging and problem-solving across ML and robotics systems
• C++ for production systems
• ML data pipelines, labeling, and model deployment
• Robotics, autonomous systems, or perception/planning experience
• Production ML systems diagnostics and iteration
• Cross-team collaboration and communication
