About this role

Fluidstack is seeking a Fluids/Mechanical Engineer to lead R&D on unprecedented-scale data center cooling systems. You'll design thermodynamic cycles, heat exchangers, and fluid systems that reject gigawatts of heat, developing machine architectures from scratch and translating models into production hardware.

What you'll do

  • Develop thermodynamic cycle models defining working fluid, pressures, temperatures, and flows for compressors, turbines, and heat exchangers
  • Design large-scale heat exchangers and fluid distribution systems optimized for minimal footprint and pressure drop
  • Conduct engineering trades on machine operating points (air-side temperature rise, face velocity, subcooling) using coupled exchanger ratings
  • Validate cycle predictions on test stands, reconcile models against measured COP, and document model gaps honestly
  • Size relief and isolation systems, taking responsibility for system safety and protection
  • Author analyses that drive design decisions in forms accessible to non-technical stakeholders
