Reliability Engineer, Data Center Design

Austin, TX (Remote)$200k–$250kfulltimemidAdded today

About this role

Fluidstack is seeking a Reliability Engineer to lead data center availability assessments and modeling for their massive AI infrastructure build-out. You'll own reliability studies across MEP systems, manage Monte Carlo simulations, maintain the PLM system, and translate technical findings into SLAs and investor materials.

What you'll do

  • Build and maintain reliability block diagrams and fault tree analyses with Monte Carlo simulations (100k+ iterations) for full MEP service chains
  • Own reliability studies at 30% and 90% design gates and conduct independent assessments of internal templates, EPC, and colocation designs
  • Manage third-party reliability consultants and review their RBD/FTA/Monte Carlo work for soundness
  • Maintain reliability models and component data in PTC Windchill PLM with full audit trails
  • Feed live-site failure and repair data into models to track modeled vs. measured uptime across portfolio
  • Translate unavailability drivers into maintenance, sparing, and capital allocation recommendations

What they're looking for

  • Reliability block diagrams and fault tree analysis (hands-on experience)
  • Monte Carlo simulation tools (PTC Windchill Prediction, ReliaSoft, or equivalent)
  • IEEE 493 (Gold Book) and IEEE 3006.5 standards knowledge
  • PTC Windchill PLM system management
  • Data center MEP systems (electrical distribution, generation, UPS, cooling, BMS)
  • Technical writing for SLAs, lease documents, and investor materials
  • Risk quantification and availability modeling
  • PE license (bonus)

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a specific reliability block diagram you built for a mission-critical system—what were the key failure modes and how did you model repair times?
  • Describe your experience running Monte Carlo simulations and how you've validated your failure-rate assumptions against IEEE 493.
