About this role

Formlabs seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop precision 3D printing mechanisms and electro-mechanical systems. You'll work across the full product development cycle—from prototyping and material research to CAD design and manufacturing collaboration—to create desktop 3D printers that are both functionally excellent and beautifully engineered.

What you'll do

  • Prototype mechanisms, test materials, and research solutions to 3D printing challenges
  • Analyze, test, validate, and iterate on electro-mechanical systems for printer hardware
  • Develop detailed CAD designs and accurate technical drawings using Solidworks or Onshape
  • Collaborate with Global Sourcing and Manufacturing teams to scale designs from prototype to production
  • Evaluate and select manufacturing techniques such as injection molding and sheet metal fabrication
  • Build and test prototypes in the company machine shop to validate design concepts
