Hermeus
Powertrain Responsible Engineer
About this role
Hermeus seeks a Powertrain Responsible Engineer to design and oversee mechanical power transmission systems for hypersonic aircraft, including turbomachinery, generators, and gearboxes. This role demands deep expertise in mechanics, fluid dynamics, and materials science to deliver mission-critical hardware in a fast-paced defense aviation environment.
What you'll do
- Own design and development of powertrain mechanical components including gearboxes, generators, motors, and turbomachinery
- Conduct first-principles analysis across mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermal systems, and materials science
- Drive iterative hardware prototyping and testing cycles to meet rapid development timelines
- Communicate technical requirements and design decisions clearly to cross-functional teams
- Ensure powertrain systems meet performance, reliability, and manufacturing constraints for hypersonic vehicles
- Collaborate with Department of War stakeholders on high-speed capability requirements
What they're looking for
- Mechanical engineering and powertrain design
- Fluid dynamics and thermodynamic analysis
- Materials science and material selection
- Manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Turbomachinery design and analysis
- Technical communication and requirements documentation
- CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) tools
