About this role

Hunter Douglas seeks an Automation & Controls Engineer I to design, develop, and implement intermediate-level automated systems supporting manufacturing initiatives across North American plants. You'll work cross-functionally to select technologies, program PLCs and robotics, manage projects, and ensure systems meet safety and efficiency standards from concept through startup.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop control systems and automation solutions collaborating with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, and Quality teams
  • Write, test, and debug PLC/DCS/SCADA control logic programs using IEC61131-3 standards and company specifications
  • Develop HMI programs for machine interactions including alarms, state management, recipes, and security features
  • Integrate control devices, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation using protocols like ECAT, EIP, DeviceNet, and CANOpen
  • Conduct FAT/SAT validations, troubleshooting, and performance testing to ensure systems meet specifications
  • Train plant personnel on deployed automation technologies and provide technical support for system optimization

  • PLC programming (Omron Sysmac Studio, Allen Bradley Studio 5000, Beckhoff TC3)

  • Motion control schemes and Safety PLC integration
  • Electrical panel design and field wiring (180VDC, 480VAC)
