About this role

Hunter Douglas seeks an Automation & Controls Engineer I to design, develop, and implement advanced automated systems across North American manufacturing plants. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead automation initiatives from concept through deployment, managing PLC/robotics programming, system integration, testing, and continuous improvement while ensuring safety and efficiency standards.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop control systems and automation solutions aligned with company standards and project goals
  • Write, test, and debug PLC/DCS/SCADA programs using IEC61131-3 standards and develop HMI interfaces
  • Manage third-party integrators, conduct FAT/SAT validations, and oversee project timelines and specifications
  • Integrate control devices, sensors, and instrumentation using various network protocols (ECAT, EIP, CANOpen, etc.)
  • Develop testing protocols and perform validation simulations to ensure system reliability and safety
  • Train plant personnel on deployed automation technologies and support troubleshooting of technical issues

  • PLC programming (Omron Sysmac Studio, Allen Bradley Studio 5000)
  • SCADA, DCS, and MES systems knowledge
  • IEC61131-3 and HDNA control standards
  • HMI development and motion control schemes
  • Network protocols (ECAT, EPL, EIP, DeviceNet, CANOpen)
  • Electrical panel design and high/low voltage systems
  • Keyence vision system integration
