Onboard Software Engineer - Deployment & Runtime Environments
About this role
Loft seeks a software engineer to develop deployment and runtime systems for on-orbit satellite software. You'll own how software is packaged, deployed, and executed on satellites, working across Linux services, container runtimes, and infrastructure tooling for a rapidly expanding fleet.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain tools for assembling mission-specific software stacks deployed to satellites
- Develop and improve the Runtime Container Environment for secure execution of customer workloads in orbit
- Build and optimize Linux infrastructure supporting reliable onboard software execution
- Expand container runtime capabilities as satellite programs scale and external workloads increase
- Debug and resolve issues across Linux internals, container systems, and CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with hardware and operations teams to ensure software reliability in space environments
