Firmware Engineer - Flight Software
About this role
Neros seeks a Firmware Engineer to develop flight-critical firmware for first-person-view combat drones, implementing control algorithms, flight modes, and sensor integrations across product platforms. You'll own firmware from design through field deployment, working with established flight stacks and iterating through bench and flight testing.
What you'll do
- Implement flight modes and control features including position/altitude hold and safety behaviors
- Port and tune sensors and control algorithms across flight stacks while maintaining pilot-dependent flight characteristics
- Develop vehicle-side datalink and payload integrations for new platform variants
- Instrument vehicles and conduct bench and flight-test iterations to debug field-specific issues
- Write unit and integration tests for firmware in partnership with the Test organization on SITL/HITL and flight tests

- Embedded C on resource-constrained microcontrollers
- PX4, Betaflight, or equivalent flight stack experience
- Flight control fundamentals (control loops, filtering, sensor fusion)
- Hardware debugging and field failure diagnosis
- End-to-end problem ownership with minimal direction
- Test discipline for safety-critical systems
- Datalink or embedded networking protocols
- Sensor estimation (EKF, complementary filters)
