Northwood Space
DSP Engineer
About this role
Northwood seeks a DSP Engineer to architect and develop a next-generation software-defined radio platform for satellite ground stations. You will own the complete signal chain—from RF transceiver selection through FPGA architecture, embedded software, and system integration—and guide the platform from requirements through production deployment.
What you'll do
- Own SDR platform architecture and development from concept through production deployment
- Translate waveform requirements into radio specifications and make architecture decisions across RF, data converters, clocks, FPGAs, and processors
- Define how signal-processing functions partition across RF hardware, FPGA, embedded software, and host compute
- Collaborate with RF, electrical, DSP, and FPGA teams on hardware design, software, waveform integration, and system performance
- Lead hardware bring-up, calibration, characterization, and troubleshooting with automated testing
- Validate end-to-end performance and reliability for satellite communications deployment
What they're looking for
- Software-defined radio (SDR) architecture and design
- RF signal chain design (RF front ends, frequency conversion, data converters, clocking)
- FPGA development and embedded processors
- High-speed mixed-signal hardware (ADCs, DACs, RF transceivers)
- Embedded C/C++ or Rust programming
- Digital communications and RF performance characterization
- High-speed interfaces (Ethernet, PCIe, JESD204, DMA)
- Hardware bring-up, calibration, and system-level troubleshooting
