Product Testing & Certification Engineer
About this role
OBE seeks a hands-on Product Testing & Certification Engineer to design, execute, and oversee testing and certification of architectural hardware and fenestration products for commercial and residential applications. You'll work across in-house labs and third-party facilities to ensure products meet UL, NFRC, ANSI/BHMA, and AAMA standards before market release.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and operate test rigs for components and complete products in-house and at external labs
- Manage full certification lifecycle through regulatory bodies (UL, NFRC, ANSI/BHMA, AAMA)
- Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) for new vendors and parts to identify nonconformances early
- Create test methods and fixtures from scratch when existing standards don't apply
- Write technical reports and documentation that withstand regulatory scrutiny
- Serve as technical liaison between Engineering, Product Development, Sales, Quality, Manufacturing, and external certifiers
What they're looking for
- Civil, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering fundamentals
- AutoCAD Mechanical or Inventor proficiency
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, shop, and jobsite drawings
- Knowledge of ASTM, AAMA, ANSI/BHMA, NFRC test methods (preferred)
- Microsoft Office suite
- Technical writing and clear communication
- Hands-on lab work and test fixture design
- Self-directed project prioritization
