About this role

OpenAI is seeking an Android Systems Engineer to build deeply integrated AI-powered experiences on consumer devices. You'll work across the Android platform stack—leveraging system APIs, device capabilities, and OEM integrations—to create agentic experiences that help users complete multi-step tasks while coordinating across apps and services.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement Android experiences using platform capabilities, framework APIs, system services, and IPC mechanisms
  • Identify and integrate device signals (audio, camera, sensors, location, connectivity) to enable context-aware AI experiences
  • Build systems that allow AI assistants to help users complete multi-step tasks and coordinate actions across applications
  • Create scalable platform abstractions and reusable components supporting multiple Android devices, OEMs, and form factors
  • Rapidly prototype and evaluate new Android capabilities and APIs to shape product direction
  • Ensure reliability, performance, power efficiency, and security across a diverse Android device ecosystem
