Component and Product Quality Engineer, Interconnects
About this role
OpenAI is seeking a quality engineering leader to oversee end-to-end quality for high-speed interconnect components and assemblies in their AI supercomputing infrastructure. This role spans design through production, requiring expertise in connectors, cables, and backplane solutions with strong problem-solving and supplier management capabilities.
What you'll do
- Own quality for high-speed interconnect components including connectors, cables, cartridges, patch panels, and backplane solutions across the product lifecycle
- Drive quality-by-design through design reviews, DFM analysis, and manufacturing process optimization to reduce field failures
- Define and track quality metrics (DPPM, yield, escapes, RMA trends) and execute qualification strategies with clear test coverage and pass/fail criteria
- Partner with engineering and operations on product ramp activities including risk assessments, pilot builds, and readiness reviews
- Manage supplier and contract manufacturer performance through audits, scorecards, and corrective action verification
- Lead root-cause investigations and end-to-end corrective action processes using structured problem-solving methodologies

- Electrical performance correlation (link margin, BER, impedance, PAM4, TDR, VNA)
- Cable and connector manufacturing processes (welding, crimping, overmolding, plating)
- Nonconformance and MRB workflow management
