Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), Healthcare - NYC
About this role
OpenAI seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead end-to-end production deployments of AI systems within healthcare organizations, managing technical discovery through launch. You'll translate complex healthcare workflows, data infrastructure, and regulatory requirements into operational AI solutions while establishing evaluation frameworks and reusable patterns for regulated environments.
What you'll do
- Own technical solutions from customer discovery and workflow analysis through architecture, implementation, evaluation, production deployment, and handoff
- Partner with customer engineers and domain experts to define scope, translate healthcare workflows into technical requirements, and establish measurable outcomes
- Design and implement production AI applications and agentic systems integrated with EHRs, enterprise APIs, claims systems, and operational tools
- Establish safeguards for PHI, HIPAA compliance, security, authorization, governance, and auditability in regulated healthcare environments
- Define and operationalize evaluations, validation evidence, human-review workflows, and launch criteria against customer-specific acceptance thresholds
- Distill deployment learnings into reference architectures, integration patterns, evaluation harnesses, and reusable technical primitives for healthcare

- Software engineering and ML/AI systems architecture (6+ years)
- Technical leadership in ambiguous, customer-facing environments
- Healthcare domain knowledge (payer, provider, EHR systems, HL7, FHIR, Epic)
- Healthcare workflow expertise (clinical operations, revenue cycle, patient access, contact centers)
- AI evaluation, governance, privacy, and security judgment
- Forward deployment or solutions engineering experience
- Enterprise systems integration and interoperability standards
- Python or similar production-grade programming
