Forward Deployed Security Engineer

About this role

OpenAI seeks a Forward Deployed Security Engineer to embed with strategic public sector customers and secure their deployments of AI technology. You'll work hands-on from design through production, implementing security controls and collaborating across teams to protect against adversaries.

What you'll do

• Embed with public sector customers to implement and maintain robust security controls throughout deployment lifecycle
• Serve as security design and technical partner on access controls, authentication, encryption, network, and system security
• Conduct routine security assessments, threat monitoring, and validation exercises
• Collaborate with engineering teams, cross-functional partners, and customers on security and compliance objectives
• Travel to and work on-site at customer locations as required
• Monitor and respond to security threats and operational incidents

What they're looking for

• Infrastructure and application security engineering (5+ years)
• Cloud platform security (Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform)
• Programming languages (Python, Golang, or similar)
• Network and endpoint detection/response (EDR/NDR)
• Security operations and threat analysis
• Penetration testing or red team experience
• Adversary tactics and threat modeling knowledge
• Cross-functional collaboration and communication
