About this role

OpenAI is seeking an Operating Systems Engineer to design and maintain connectivity and networking foundations for consumer devices. You'll develop OS services, frameworks, and APIs for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IP networking while ensuring secure, reliable communication across products and systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement OS services, frameworks, and APIs for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IP networking
  • Build reusable network capabilities including connection management, configuration, service discovery, and routing
  • Develop network services and policies for secure communication, traffic management, and isolation
  • Investigate and resolve correctness, concurrency, interoperability, and reliability issues across the stack
  • Profile and optimize latency, throughput, resource usage, and power efficiency using tracing and measurements
  • Create diagnostic tools, test workloads, and automated tests to validate reliability across network conditions

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth OS frameworks and connectivity middleware
  • IP networking (IPv4/IPv6, TCP/UDP, DNS, DHCP, routing, sockets)
  • Advanced networking (routing, VPNs, traffic management, network isolation)
  • Protocol analysis and network debugging with packet captures and system traces
  • Platform API design and OS service architecture
  • Asynchronous systems and interprocess communication
