About this role
Periodic Labs seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed with customers and translate their quantum simulation workflows into solutions using the company's AI platform. You'll write code, configure integrations, and serve as the technical bridge between materials scientists and the platform, directly influencing product development.
What you'll do
- Embed with customers to understand quantum simulation workflows (DFT, quantum chemistry, etc.) and build tailored solutions
- Write integration code and scripts connecting customer simulation environments (VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO, etc.) to Periodic Labs infrastructure
- Configure and troubleshoot high-throughput simulation pipelines on cloud and HPC environments
- Serve as primary technical contact for customer portfolio from deployment through expansion
- Collect and communicate detailed product feedback to internal teams to shape roadmap priorities
- Create reusable assets including onboarding guides, workflow templates, and documentation
What they're looking for
- Quantum chemistry or condensed matter simulation codes (3–7 years experience)
- Hands-on expertise with ab initio/DFT codes (VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO, FHI-aims, CP2K)
- Python programming and workflow automation
- HPC cluster and cloud compute management (AWS, GCP, Azure, SLURM, PBS)
- Clear communication of complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
- Customer-facing and deployment mindset with proactive ownership
- ML-accelerated potentials or differentiable simulation (preferred)
- Materials informatics platforms or workflow frameworks (preferred)
