About this role
Relativity Space seeks a Propulsion Engineer II to own the design, development, and qualification of thermal protection system heatshield hardware for the Aeon-R engine. You'll drive the full lifecycle from concept through flight testing, ensuring these critical components survive extreme entry and landing conditions while enabling engine reuse on the Terran R vehicle.
What you'll do
- Design, analyze, develop, test, and qualify heatshield hardware across multiple engine and flight configurations
- Leverage development testing and flight data to iterate and improve heatshield performance
- Analyze post-flight hardware conditions to assess reusability and identify design improvements
- Collaborate with peer engineers across Propulsion and Vehicle organizations to optimize mechanical interfaces
- Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to transition designs from development to production
- Own accountability for heatshield component performance throughout the engine lifecycle
