About this role
Relativity Space seeks a Vehicle Mechanisms Engineer I to design and develop flight-critical mechanisms for the Terran R rocket, including stage separation, landing gear, and aero control systems. You'll own the full lifecycle from concept through testing, collaborating across structures, avionics, and fluids teams while leveraging additive manufacturing to optimize designs for performance and manufacturability.
What you'll do
- Design flight mechanisms such as stage separation, payload deployment, landing gear, and aero control features
- Conduct trade studies comparing mechanism design concepts and present findings to leadership
- Perform analysis of static and dynamic loads, material properties, and manufacturing constraints
- Define design criteria and subsystem requirements in collaboration with partner teams
- Support full design cycle activities including conceptualization, testing, and manufacturability refinement
- Integrate mechanisms within printed primary structures and leverage additive manufacturing capabilities
