Flight Software Engineer II
About this role
Rocket Lab seeks a Flight Software Engineer II to develop flight software for spacecraft and space systems. You'll design and implement embedded software for sensors and actuators, conduct testing, and support on-orbit operations for missions launching within weeks to months.
What you'll do
- Develop application software for Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux environments
- Create hardware drivers for IMUs, Star Trackers, Reaction Wheels, and other spacecraft subsystems
- Write and maintain comprehensive unit tests within a Continuous Integration framework
- Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers on software and hardware verification
- Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and code reviews to ensure coding standards compliance
- Support on-orbit flight operations and interplanetary mission activities

- CAN/CAN-FD and UDP/TCP protocols (preferred)
- Rust programming language (preferred)
- Autonomous systems in harsh environments (preferred)
