About this role
Rocket Lab seeks a Mechanical Engineer I to design and optimize spaceflight separation systems in Silver Spring, MD. You'll engage in hands-on assembly, mechanical analysis, prototyping, and quality control of innovative space mechanisms while collaborating with machinists and customers.
What you'll do
- Perform hands-on assembly and production of mechanical space systems and separation mechanisms
- Design, prototype, and test electro-mechanical space systems using classical and computational methods
- Identify and implement quality improvements and process optimization initiatives
- Consult with machinists and vendors to ensure proper component manufacturing
- Conduct inspection and quality control of machined parts
- Travel occasionally to meet with customers regarding products
