Rocket Lab Corporation
Software Engineer II - Robotics
About this role
Rocket Lab seeks a Software Engineer II to develop software for robotic systems, motion controls, and production support tools at their Pasadena robotics facility. You'll work hands-on across the full lifecycle—from concept through hardware integration, testing, and deployment—collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain software for robotic platforms, motion-control systems, sensing systems, and operator-facing tools
- Support full software lifecycle from concept, simulation, and hardware bring-up through integration, testing, deployment, and production support
- Integrate software with motors, actuators, encoders, sensors, motion controllers, machine vision systems, and industrial networks
- Partner with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, quality) to define requirements and verification approaches
- Troubleshoot issues spanning software, controls, electrical hardware, sensors, actuators, networks, and production equipment
- Maintain software quality through code reviews, version control, CI/CD, automated testing, and documentation practices
What they're looking for
- C++ and/or Python
- Robotics frameworks (ROS or ROS 2)
- Real-time and embedded software development
- Hardware integration (motors, actuators, sensors, motion controllers)
- Linux development environments
- Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Control systems and real-time timing concepts
- Cross-functional technical communication
