About this role
Join a well-funded aerospace and defense startup in Torrance, CA as a Firmware Engineer developing motor control firmware for next-generation motion technologies. You'll write embedded C code for STM32 microcontrollers while collaborating closely with hardware engineers to debug board-level issues using oscilloscopes and other test equipment.
What you'll do
- Develop firmware in C for STM32 microcontrollers, focusing on motor control applications
- Execute end-to-end development cycle from requirements analysis through design, implementation, and verification
- Debug hardware issues using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers alongside motor control engineers
- Bring up new hardware prototypes and diagnose board-level problems
- Support mechanical team with actuator design and verification
- Work with communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, Ethernet, BiSS-C) and embedded peripherals
What they're looking for
- C firmware development
- STM32 microcontroller programming
- Real-time operating systems (RTOS: ThreadX, FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
- Oscilloscope and hardware debugging
- JTAG/SWD debugging tools (J-Link, Lauterbach, Ozone)
- Schematic reading and circuit analysis
- Communication protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, Ethernet)
- Embedded peripherals (ADC, timers, memory management)
