About this role
Shield AI seeks a Materials and Failure Analysis Engineer to investigate product failures and characterize materials for the X-BAT vehicle. You'll lead hands-on lab investigations using advanced instrumentation, collaborate cross-functionally to implement corrective actions, and establish best practices that influence hardware design and manufacturing decisions.
What you'll do
- Conduct failure analysis investigations and root cause analysis for X-BAT vehicle hardware
- Perform materials characterization using SEM, EDS, X-ray, optical microscopy, and cross-section preparation
- Develop and establish standard operating procedures for the materials lab
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams on corrective actions and recurrence prevention
- Analyze metals, ceramics, polymers, and composite materials across product designs
- Manage outsourcing of specialized analytical capabilities when internal resources are insufficient
