Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer
About this role
Space Kinetic seeks a Materials & Process Engineer to serve as a technical authority for spacecraft hardware development, from design through production. You'll guide material selection, lead qualification programs, and support failure investigations for advanced space systems in a fast-paced startup environment.
What you'll do
- Guide designers on material selection, surface treatments, and space-environment risk mitigation (atomic oxygen, outgassing, corrosion, thermal cycling)
- Author and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and process procedures per aerospace standards
- Plan and execute qualification programs for metallics, composites, coatings, adhesives, and lubricants
- Support design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) with M&P risk assessments and recommendations
- Manage verification activities and approve materials/processes before flight-hardware assembly
- Lead destructive and non-destructive failure investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions
What they're looking for
- Aerospace materials engineering (3-7 years spaceflight/high-reliability experience)
- Metallics expertise (aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, high-strength alloys)
- Structural composites and carbon-fiber manufacturing processes
- Thermal-control hardware and materials (heat pipes, coatings, adhesives, lubricants)
- Manufacturing non-conformance investigation and resolution
- Aerospace standards and engineering drawing/specification authorship
- Qualification program planning and test data analysis
- Cross-functional collaboration with design, manufacturing, quality, and test teams
