SpaceX
Harness Design Engineer (Starshield)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Harness Design Engineer for the Starshield satellite program to design and own electrical interconnection systems from concept through flight operations. This role combines electro-mechanical design, systems integration, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable avionics harnesses for government satellite missions.
What you'll do
- Own satellite avionics harness design across all lifecycle stages: architecture, integration, testing, production, and in-orbit operations
- Create electrical schematics and 3D CAD designs in NX that specify connectivity, power distribution, fault tolerance, and reliability requirements
- Conduct thermal, loads, and vibration analysis to qualify harness performance over full mission lifecycle
- Collaborate across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, RF, EMI) to identify requirements and drive design trades
- Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure designs are producible and installable on schedule
- Lead R&D investigations and trade studies to improve harness reliability, mass, and cost at the satellite level
What they're looking for
- Electro-mechanical harness design and manufacturing
- Siemens NX CAD proficiency
- Electrical schematic and wiring diagram design
- Connector, wire, cable, and fiber component selection
- Systems engineering and requirements traceability
- Thermal, structural, and vibration analysis
- Aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing experience
- Cross-functional team collaboration and technical communication
