About this role
SpaceX seeks a Materials Engineer to develop high-reliability microelectronics packages, cooling systems, and radiator hardware for Starmind's orbital AI satellite constellation. You'll own the complete lifecycle of materials—from specification and validation through failure analysis—while collaborating across disciplines to deliver advanced space-based compute electronics.
What you'll do
- Develop high-reliability microelectronics packages, thermal interface materials, and cooling systems optimized for space environments
- Manage full materials lifecycle including specification, validation, characterization, and failure analysis
- Build and qualify supply chains for plating chemicals, coatings, thermal materials, and other advanced packaging components
- Design thermal test vehicles and metrology tools to evaluate material properties and guide targeted improvements
- Drive system trades and requirements capture for materials selection, prototyping, and manufacturing processes
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and manage reliability risks across materials and processes
