About this role
SpaceX seeks a Materials Engineer to own consumable materials across Starlink's in-house solar cell, ingot, and wafer manufacturing lines. You'll drive material sourcing, qualification, and production handoff while partnering with supply chain, process, and quality teams to ensure reliable, high-performance cells that power the satellite constellation.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end consumable materials for ingot, wafer, and solar cell lines—sourcing through production support
- Partner with supply chain to identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers for critical process materials
- Define material specifications, requirements, and acceptance criteria with cross-functional teams
- Plan and execute material qualification campaigns including characterization, trials, and production-readiness assessment
- Investigate root causes and implement durable corrective actions using first-principles thinking
- Identify opportunities to improve material performance, cost, yield, and reliability through alternatives or process changes

- Metals, polymers, crystals, ceramics, coatings, and process consumables knowledge
