SpaceX
Software Development Test Engineer (Starlink)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Software Development Test Engineer to design and build hardware-in-the-loop testbeds for Starlink satellite systems, enabling comprehensive testing of software innovations like laser mesh networks and phased array antennas. You'll develop simulation environments, manage test coverage, and scale HITL infrastructure to support rapid software development.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain hardware-in-the-loop testbeds with supporting infrastructure and tooling for Starlink's CI/CD system
- Develop test cases and simulation environments that replicate on-orbit scenarios for flight-like validation
- Manage test coverage levels across the software organization while balancing reliability, velocity, and safety
- Devise strategies to scale the HITL fleet to meet growing Starlink software testing demands
- Troubleshoot HITL test failures to identify testbed issues and prevent bugs from reaching production
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on platforms for testing ground antennas, amplifiers, and ground-to-space lasers
What they're looking for
- Python development
- CI/CD pipeline development and infrastructure
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL/HIL) test system design
- Electrical test equipment operation (oscilloscopes, DAQs, spectrum analyzers)
- Communication protocols (USB, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, Modbus)
- RF systems and high-voltage electronics testing
- Troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization
- 3D CAD software and simulation tools
