SpaceX
Software Engineer, C++ Simulations (Starlink)
About this role
SpaceX seeks an expert C++ engineer to design and optimize high-performance vehicle dynamics simulators for Starlink's guidance, navigation, and control systems. You'll architect scalable simulation infrastructure, lead major refactors, and collaborate across teams to deliver physics-accurate models that support spacecraft development.
What you'll do
- Lead design and refactoring of core C++ vehicle dynamics simulator to scale with Starlink constellation growth
- Architect high-performance Monte Carlo simulation infrastructure with parallelization and large-scale reliability
- Develop new simulation features, models, and tooling in collaboration with GNC users
- Optimize performance, manage profiling, continuous integration, testing, and reliability across simulation stack
- Design testing frameworks, support infrastructure, and visualization components for GNC development
- Model multi-body physics, environmental effects, and hardware behaviors with rigorous software quality
What they're looking for
- Expert C++ with focus on performance, memory management, and multi-threading
- High-performance computing and parallel computing optimization
- Physics engine or simulation systems development
- Software architecture and large-scale codebase design
- Performance profiling, debugging, and continuous integration
- Physics and numerical methods fundamentals
- Python and/or JavaScript for tooling and visualization
- Cross-functional collaboration and communication
Benefits
- Work on cutting-edge spacecraft simulation technology
- Opportunity to lead major architectural refactors on mission-critical systems
- Competitive base salary with long-term stock or cash incentives
- Collaborate with world-class aerospace engineering teams
