Chief Engineer

About this role

Sphinx seeks an experienced Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership and serve as the primary engineering authority for a satellite communications space-ground software program. This role requires guiding system architecture, technical strategy, risk management, and cross-functional execution while interfacing with government customers and partner organizations.

What you'll do

• Establish technical authority and guidance on system architecture, engineering decisions, and risk management for space-ground SATCOM programs
• Lead development of scalable and resilient system and ground segment architectures supporting mission performance and long-term sustainment
• Author and maintain Space-to-Ground Interface Control Documents ensuring compatibility between space payloads and ground systems
• Drive cross-functional collaboration between software, systems engineering, cybersecurity, integration, and operations teams
• Define technical roadmaps, standards, and interface strategies; manage technical risks and dependencies throughout execution
• Support cybersecurity RMF activities, proposal efforts, and mentorship of engineering teams

• SATCOM systems experience including command and control and mission operations (8+ years)
• Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools (5+ years)
• Software-intensive systems engineering and architecture
• Modern software architectures and containerized applications
• Cloud-based infrastructure and IaaS environments (5+ years)
• Systems engineering and technical program leadership
• Interface definition and integration management
