About this role
Stratolaunch is seeking a Level II or Senior CFD Engineer to support the design of hypersonic vehicles operating at Mach 5+. You'll perform advanced aerodynamic and aerothermal analyses, develop CFD databases, and contribute to design trade studies and flight test support for reusable air-launched testbeds.
What you'll do
- Conduct advanced CFD analyses of hypersonic vehicles, focusing on interference effects and high-speed flow interactions
- Develop, manage, and validate large CFD databases for various vehicle configurations
- Integrate analytical, numerical, wind tunnel, and flight test data into aerodynamic and aerothermal models
- Perform design trade studies and detailed analyses supporting conceptual and detailed design phases
- Support flight test operations and correlate predictions with flight data
- Develop analytical tools for hypersonic vehicle design and analysis
What they're looking for
- CFD analysis and solver expertise (subsonic to hypersonic regimes)
- Aerodynamic and aerothermal modeling
- High-speed flow physics and Mach 5+ environments
- Multi-body and propulsion-airframe interaction analysis
- Database management and validation
- Wind tunnel and flight test data correlation
- Design trade study methodologies
- Programming or scripting for tool development
Likely interview questions
- Walk us through your experience with CFD analyses in the hypersonic regime—what solvers have you used and what physical phenomena were most challenging?
- How have you handled multi-body interference effects or propulsion-airframe interactions in previous projects?
