About this role

Supabase is seeking an experienced performance engineer to identify and deliver measurable performance improvements across their Postgres platform stack. You'll work on concrete optimizations from query planning to kernel-level tuning, partnering with database and infrastructure teams while establishing performance methodologies for the entire organization.

What you'll do

  • Identify production bottlenecks and characterize them precisely for downstream teams to act on independently
  • Collaborate with database teams (Multigres, OrioleDB) and infrastructure teams to implement concrete performance gains
  • Develop and evolve performance analysis methodologies and tooling that extract actionable insights from production data
  • Partner with observability team to capture relevant performance signals and establish unified cross-product visibility
  • Enable teams to self-serve performance analysis and embed performance as a core engineering practice
  • Debug tail latency issues and scalability bottlenecks across the entire stack

What they're looking for

  • Performance analysis and profiling of distributed systems
  • Linux kernel internals (virtual memory, scheduling, networking, IO)
  • Database internals (query planning, storage engines, buffer management, WAL)
  • Network performance and TCP behavior under load
  • AWS cloud infrastructure and primitives (EBS, instance limits, placement groups, cross-AZ latency)
  • Full-stack debugging from application through syscalls to IO scheduler
  • Technical writing and clear communication of complex problems
  • Pragmatic tooling development and cross-team collaboration
