Tooling Engineer I
About this role
Vast seeks a Tooling Engineer to design and implement fixtures and tooling systems for Haven-1 commercial space station assembly and handling. You'll collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and integration teams to develop spacecraft fixtures, conduct mechanical analysis, and drive production improvements in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
What you'll do
- Design, activate, and implement fixtures and tooling for Haven-1 assembly, lifting, and handling operations
- Define vehicle integration flow, manufacturing processes, and tooling interfaces with Integration and Manufacturing teams
- Perform mechanical analysis and FEA for spacecraft fixtures and develop qualification plans
- Develop operation and maintenance plans for test fixtures; manage schedule and critical deadlines
- Manage vendor relationships and identify new technologies applicable to space station applications
- Coordinate tooling modifications and collaborate with engineering stakeholders to solve production issues
