About this role

Waymo is seeking a summer 2027 intern to develop safety-critical embedded software for autonomous vehicles. You'll write C++ firmware and simulation tools that directly control vehicle systems, working on platform bring-up, testing, and debugging alongside experienced engineers.

What you'll do

  • Develop C++ software for on-vehicle firmware and off-vehicle simulation/tooling running at the autonomous driver's edge
  • Contribute to hardware-software integration, platform bring-up, and validation for new vehicle platforms
  • Write unit tests and Software-in-the-Loop simulation fixtures to validate system robustness and fault handling
  • Analyze field data logs and vehicle telemetry to identify root causes and improve firmware performance
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and cross-functional engineering workflows
  • Debug and validate next-generation compute platforms and peripheral drivers
