Component Engineer
About this role
Waymo seeks a Component Engineer to manage electronic component sourcing, qualification, and lifecycle for autonomous vehicle systems. You'll coordinate across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to optimize BOMs, navigate component changes, and support new product introductions and production programs.
What you'll do
- Monitor and track electrical BOMs to consolidate parts and manage component obsolescence risks
- Evaluate component specifications and propose alternatives that balance engineering and commercial requirements
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and design teams to maintain accurate PLM systems
- Manage Product Change Notifications (PCNs) and lead component qualification efforts with suppliers
- Support new product introduction and production programs through automation and best practices
- Conduct manufacturing and field failure analysis at the component level

- Electronic datasheet interpretation and specification analysis
- PLM systems administration (preferably Enovia)
- Semiconductor market knowledge and supply chain acumen
- Bill of Materials (BOM) management and optimization
- Automotive compliance standards (AEC-Q, PPAP)
- ECAD tools (Cadence, Altium)
- Cross-functional communication and technical documentation
- Manufacturing process and electronic design principles
