Embedded Software Engineer

Menlo Park, California$130k–$180kmidAdded today

About this role

Workstream's Robotics team seeks an embedded software engineer to develop firmware for connected hardware devices that capture and process egocentric video data for AI training. You'll own the full stack from bare-metal MCU code to embedded Linux, working across hardware bring-up, sensor integration, and building developer tooling for a fast-moving robotics initiative.

What you'll do

  • Architect and implement on-device software for recording, sensor management, storage, and power with long-session reliability
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on new board bring-up, sensor integration, and driver development
  • Prototype and evaluate technical solutions through testing and measurement to guide product decisions
  • Define and maintain clean APIs, SDKs, and communication protocols between device and cloud systems
  • Build automation and tooling for firmware development, testing, and production calibration
  • Debug hardware interfaces and solve complex problems at the firmware-hardware boundary

What they're looking for

  • C/C++ and Python programming
  • Embedded Linux (device drivers, device tree, boot processes)
  • Bare-metal and RTOS firmware development
  • Hardware bring-up and board debugging
  • Sensor driver development and datasheets interpretation
  • Hardware-software integration and tradeoff analysis
  • Firmware testing and validation
  • API/SDK design and documentation

Benefits

  • Work on cutting-edge AI and robotics hardware at a high-growth Series B company
  • Backed by legendary VCs including Founders Fund and Coatue
  • Fast-moving small team with ownership and autonomy
  • Impact on next-generation intelligent systems and real-world AI applications
  • Located in Menlo Park, California

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a project where you shipped embedded software on real hardware—what was the biggest challenge bringing it to production?
  • Describe your experience with embedded Linux. Have you written device drivers or worked with device trees, and what was the most complex hardware integration you've done?
