HITL Test Engineer
About this role
Astranis is seeking a HITL Test Engineer to design, build, and maintain hardware-in-the-loop testbeds that validate satellite systems before flight. You'll collaborate across multiple engineering teams to ensure testbeds are flight-representative and reliable, owning the full lifecycle from design through operations.
What you'll do
- Design and build flatsat and HITL testbeds from initial concept through hardware procurement and software integration
- Scope, design, and coordinate custom harnesses for flight-like hardware with manufacturing partners
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software failures spanning firmware, flight software, and physical components
- Serve as rotating on-call point of contact for testbed health, triaging anomalies and managing engineer access
- Drive testbed architecture decisions including hardware allocation and risk mitigation for resource contention
- Develop tooling and expand simulation capabilities to improve testbed observability and automated operations

- Hardware integration and systems bring-up
- Python or equivalent scripting for test automation
- Linux and shell command-line tools
- Embedded systems and laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
- Circuit debugging and schematic reading
- Version control systems (Git)
- Flight software architectures and telemetry systems (bonus)
- Kubernetes or Linux system administration (bonus)
