VoIP Engineer

About this role

Bandwidth seeks a VoIP Engineer to join its Network Operations team, managing carrier-grade SIP infrastructure and ensuring reliable voice connectivity globally. You'll design, deploy, and troubleshoot complex voice systems while automating operational workflows using scripting and modern engineering practices.

What you'll do

• Test, deploy, and maintain SIP solutions with global carriers for reliability and optimal routing
• Collaborate with R&D to integrate SIP services across SBC edge and custom voice core infrastructure
• Deploy, upgrade, and maintain core voice infrastructure including SBCs and policy servers with on-call rotation
• Build automation scripts in Python, Bash, or Ansible to reduce manual operational workflows
• Troubleshoot advanced SIP/RTP issues using tools like Wireshark, Empirix, SIPp, and HEPIC
• Document call flows, procedures, and infrastructure as code

What they're looking for

• SIP signaling and protocol expertise (INVITE, BYE, SDP negotiation, RTP/RTCP)
• Python, Bash, Ansible, or Github scripting for automation
• Session Border Controller (SBC) maintenance, particularly Ribbon platforms
• Open-source VoIP technologies (Kamailio, OpenSIPS)
• Diagnostic tools (Wireshark, SIPp, sngrep, Homer/HEP, Empirix)
• Carrier-grade voice network design and carrier-to-carrier SIP interconnects
• Voice security protocols (TLS, SRTP, STIR/SHAKEN)
• IP networking, DNS, and routing fundamentals
