Cognition
Software Engineer, Infrastructure
About this role
Cognition seeks an Infrastructure Engineer to design and operate the scalable, reliable systems powering Devin (an AI software engineer) and Windsurf (an AI IDE). You'll own compute orchestration, sandboxed environments, CI/CD pipelines, and observability across millions of agent sessions while partnering closely with product teams.
What you'll do
- Design and operate sandboxed compute environments for agent task execution, including VM orchestration, container management, and resource scheduling
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment systems, and developer tooling that internal teams depend on
- Define SLOs, build monitoring and alerting systems, lead incident response, and drive postmortem improvements
- Anticipate capacity and architecture needs to stay ahead of product growth and scale
- Work with product engineers and researchers to understand infrastructure requirements and design solutions that enable fast shipping
- Implement security, isolation, and multi-tenant compute strategies for agentic workloads running arbitrary code
What they're looking for
- Distributed systems design and large-scale infrastructure operation
- Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform)
- Python and systems-level coding
- Observability, monitoring, and alerting design
- Sandboxing and network isolation
- CI/CD and deployment pipeline architecture
Benefits
- Base salary $260,000–$300,000 plus significant early-stage equity
- Fully paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents
- 401(k) with company match
