MEMS Process Integration Engineer

HRL Laboratories seeks a MEMS Process Integration Engineer to develop advanced sensors and actuators for aerospace, automotive, and defense applications. This role combines research innovation with production scalability, requiring expertise in microfabrication processes, device design, and precision metrology to transition cutting-edge MEMS technologies from lab to real-world deployment.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to develop MEMS-enabled sensors and actuators for multiple industries
• Integrate new fabrication processes into scalable production workflows while maintaining research integrity
• Lead design, fabrication, and testing of MEMS devices and subsystems to meet performance specifications
• Design and execute experiments to validate innovative MEMS technologies and solve complex engineering challenges
• Perform wafer inspections and metrology analysis to ensure quality and drive iterative process improvements
• Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resources to bridge research innovations with practical applications

What they're looking for

• Process development and optimization with design of experiments (DOE)
• Advanced microfabrication techniques (photolithography, etching, CVD, deposition, bonding)
• Deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) and sacrificial layer processing
• Precision metrology using SEM, optical microscopy, and interferometric measurements
• CAD mask layout design with L-Edit or Cadence
• Statistical data analysis and problem-solving
• Process control monitor (PCM) design and characterization
• Cross-functional team communication in multi-disciplinary environments
